AliExpress is a business unit within Alibaba Group launched in April 2010 as a global retail marketplace targeted at consumers worldwide, many of them located in Russia, Spain, France, Britain, Germany and the United States. The platform enables consumers from around the world to buy directly from wholesalers (Trading Companies) and manufacturers in China and have access to a wide variety at competitive prices.
So below are what you need to start your mini importation business or to buy something from China (AliExpress):
- Money – It is like stating the obvious. You need capital to start your business. You need money to buy the products you want to sell. Sellers on AliExpress will not do Cash on Delivery like we do Nigeria. You have to pay online before they process or ship your order.
- Debit Card – For starters it is advisable you start with secure payment. You are dealing with people outside the coast of Nigeria. People you haven’t or will not see in your lifetime. You need a debit card – MasterCard or Visa – to start your journey on AliExpress. Also note that this is a business transaction so it is advisable you find a bank with good rate for naira-to-dollar card transaction. The cheaper the rate, the more the unfair advantage you get in the marketplace when you list your product for sell.
- Internet Access – You need an internet enabled device to access AliExpress website. It doesn’t matter whether your device is a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or desktop. As far as you get access to the internet, you are ready to start your journey in ecommerce business. I suggest you start with a private network instead of public domain because you will be using your personal and card details for transactions on AliExpress. Don’t use a cybercafé because of security issues and card scams.
- Email Address – You need email address before you can register as a buyer on AliExpress. If you don’t have an email address (which I consider strange), kindly sign up for FREE email account on gmail.com or yahoo.com.
- Mobile Number – A mobile number is also required to sign up for AliExpress account. Your registered mobile number on AliExpress will be used in contacting you when the courier wants to deliver your product. So it is very paramount to ensure your mobile number is correct and accurate.
- Physical Address – You also need a physical address to register for AliExpress account. Your house address needs to be clear and concise to ensure you get products bought on AliExpress. Don’t use a fake address, if you do, your products will be delivered to a wrong person.
- AliExpress Account – Now that you have the money, a debit card and internet access, your next step of action is to visit AliExpress to register your account.
